Semester Goals

Back on campus, back in class, back to band.  So far I am LOVING it. On Thursdays, my only class is band... at 3:30 p.m.  So I have all day to kill.  My roommate told me to enjoy my 'lazy' day.  I was like, "Who said anything about being lazy?!?!"  I like to look at it as a get-homework-and-laundry-done-and-cook-and-maybe-catch-up-on-sleep-and-blogging day.  For real, I have hours and hours of time to be productive.  I finished my Russian homework (and I'm procrastinating on my Principles of Dynamics homework by blogging).  I crossed off a lot of things on my list, but I keep thinking of more to add.  It's good though: I'd rather stay busy.  I manage my time so much better and focus more when I have multiple things on my plate.

This semester I have a few goals:
-Finish every homework assignment
This isn't really anything new for me.  I think it's just a more specific goal than stay on top of my homework.
-Cook at least 4 times a week
This actually does not seem like very much to me, but I have classes most days (so lunch with be packed).  I'm trying to avoid eating out all the time, and I really do need to learn how to cook.  Today I made these for lunch: http://www.the-girl-who-ate-everything.com/2012/01/pepperoni-cheese-stick-roll-ups.html.  Easy, delicious, and now I have leftovers for dinner.
-Run at least once a week.
Again, this seems like not very much, but with marching band, Ultimate Frisbee practices, and rock-climbing (in addition to walking/biking around campus), I think I'll stay in shape.
-Regularly wash my sheets and towels.
I am terrible about doing this in Houston.  I need to change.
-Keep things in perspective.
I know this is vague and intangible.  But I need to remember that it is just school.  I don't have to get straight A's. My Russian class is pass/fail... so I need to remember that Russian is not a priority over Rocket Propulsion.
-Get clarinet t-shirts
Apparently this didn't happen last year.  How sad...

If I think of more, I'll post them here.  Time to enjoy my senior year and kick ass.

Choosing Happiness

So lately things have been kind of sucky.  But I'm determined to turn it around, and these past two days have been GREAT.  Like feel-good-about-life kind of days.

What I've been trying to do is do things that make me happy... like read that book that Lucas recommended ("The Name of the Wind") and paint my nails. I feel really happy when I'm either a.) working out, b.) spending time with my friends, and c.) investing in my relationships.  For c.) I mean things like what I'm about to do: go buy my dad a Father's Day card.  I like sending mail and texting friends who are far away.  I feel great when I make other people happy.  So I am trying to spend less time focusing on myself and spend more time lifting others up.

This morning was spent with friends.  A Mud Maxx run followed by brunch at a classy restaurant in Houston with the buds. We went to Benjy's for brunch, and then we stopped by Crave Cupcakes.  I was too full to get a cupcake to eat there, but I enjoyed a third of this cupcake later in the afternoon.  See pictures.

The group... showing off our muddy muscles :)

Shirt and dog tag!  I like the colors.  Also, shirts: the best part of races.
Even the box is cute!

Long time, no see..

Sorry for the totally cliche blog title... I might be a little rusty at this Blogspot thing.  It's been too long.  School definitely consumes my life when I'm there for a semester.  But now I'm back in the great state of Texas (yee-haw) and loving it.

The first picture is what I wore on my first day of work.  I felt like a million dollars.  Seriously... that blazer. It has stars embroidered on it, and it is salmon-colored.  Could a jacket be any better?!?! I don't think so. The skirt cost less than $5 at Target, and it might be the most comfy skirt I've ever owned.  And then the heels elongate my frame and make my legs look kick-ass. At least I think so.  I was reading somewhere that we should play up our favorite body parts.  I like my legs, so I like to wear snazzy shoes and shorts/skirts.

This weekend my friends and I traveled to San Antonio.  It was a fun trip, despite the fact that it rained most of the time we were there. Here is a group photo at the Japanese gardens.  Love these people.  Sometimes I love them so much it hurts.  But they constantly remind me how blessed I am!

Have a great Memorial Day all!  Take some time for yourself and chilllllll... you know you want to!

Smorgasbord

Nothing like listening to Lissie on Pandora, drinking coffee from my space shuttle mug, and sitting in my robe on a Sunday morning.  I have Psi stuff at 10:00 a.m., but I set my alarm clock so that I have time to go through a relaxing morning routine.  I probably should be doing more of my homework due on Friday, but that can wait for this afternoon or this evening (after the Super Bowl).

Recently, I've been a little too busy to blog. Consequently, this post is a smorgasbord of pictures from this week and the past.  Yesterday, Amanda and I went to Greyhouse for breakfast and coffee.  I studied a little for my Music Appreciation exam (coming up on Tuesday) while drinking my Creme Brulee latte and eating my delish blueberry scone.  Friday found Amanda and I at Orange Leaf, where part of the sales for the day went to the Purdue Winter Guard.  Gotta support our fellow band members!

The following pictures are outfits I've worn recently.  I absolutely love the jeggings (in two of the pictures) and the dark skinny jeans (in two of the pictures).  Also, note that I'm wearing a v-neck t-shirt in the top two photos. Some clothes are just so versatile!  I wear boots almost every day (thanks to the cold, snowy Indiana January/February), but I wore my floral print sneakers on the random day it hit 70 degrees!

College My Way

This weekend has been a little busy.  Because I finished my homework for Friday on Wednesday afternoon, my roommate from freshmen year, Courtney, convinced me to go to the Cactus (the popular Thursday night spot) with her and her boyfriend John.  It was fun to dance, and we didn't stay super late because Court had an 8:30 a.m. class the next day.  So I was in bed by 12:15 a.m. That is my kind of night!
Me, Court, and Kyle (and John creepin')
8 a.m. on Saturday found me at the armory for Ultimate Frisbee practice.  I feel rusty sometimes, but then I remember that while I'm not the best thrower, I am a good cutter and have plenty of endurance.  I'll get back in the swing of things, especially if I keep going to practice regularly.  I've been making it a priority, which has been great!   After practice, we went to a teammate's apartment for pancakes, eggs, bacon, and sausage, and we got jerseys!  Check out our awesome green shirts!
A Murder of Crows jersey
The white jersey is alright (although it fits differently than the green... whatever), but the shorts are awesome too.  They are a grey, but they're comfy and a nice length.  Also, I got to keep my number from last year, 8!

Purdue shows free movies at Fowler (Flicks at Fowler) every so often, so three of my friends and I saw "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" at 7 p.m. last night.  It was emotional, but I really liked it. All the references to Pittsburgh and Penn State made me miss a certain someone though.  Orange Leaf afterwards and a Walmart run completed my night.

Today is a day full of band: First Degree for Psi, Boiler Brass (go Boilers, beat Iowa!), and Chapter for KKY. Oh, and trying to fit more homework in there.

Have a productive day!

Preppy Purdue

Some of my favorite bloggers are all about the button-up shirts under sweaters.  So I decided to try it, and I loved it!  First of all, I like the neutral colors together... I feel like it gives it a classic look.  Secondly, I love these dark jeans.  They work with boots, but they are also the perfect length/tightness to rock with TOMS, Converse low-tops, or sandals.  The best part of this outfit was that I was warm and confident all day.
Sometimes I wonder if I'm vain because I love dressing up and attempting to be fashionable, but then I realized that there is nothing wrong with dressing so that you feel pretty, cute, smart, whatever.  It's a total confidence booster, and when you look great, you feel great.  So don't apologize for loving clothes, your hair, or your favorite pair of shoes, and go rock your look!

Happy Friday!

Back to school...

Ah college.  I confess: I love it.  Sometimes it is stressful (okay, most of the time it is stressful), packed with homework and quizzes and exams, and so-cold-I-don't-want-to-leave-my-bed mornings, but seriously, when else in our lives do we get to essentially make our own schedule, live nearby a Starbucks and multiple coffee shops, and not feel guilty about wearing black all the time?  Okay, so maybe the last part is just for me (BOILER UP).  While it took me awhile to get back in the swing of things... college is quite the adjustment from working full-time... I am now living in college mode again.  Ultimate Frisbee practices, easy-peasy reading for my Music Appreciation classes, and memorizing when teachers have offices hours.  Fortunately, the storm of homework hasn't hit yet.  After posting this blog, I'm going to attempt to finish my Spacecraft Dynamics homework... that is due on Friday.  And note: I only have 1/8 of one problem left, and I know how to do it.  Of course, there is this dread in my mind that the storm is coming... I'll be waiting though.

Check out my first day of school outfit (the purple v-neck and scarf) and the outfit I wore yesterday.  Same jeans, but I like them way better with the TOMS as opposed to with the fake Sperry's.  Note to self: don't pair American Eagle jeans with gold Sperry's.  Seriously, why does it look so weird?!?!

As a bonus, I've posted a picture of my new climbing shoes, made by Evolv. They're cute and useful: they met my approval bouldering the other day in Purdue's kick-ass new recreational center.  I am so glad I get another year to enjoy it!

If you want to see more of my outfits, check out my Tumblr blog: http://spacedoutfashionista.tumblr.com/
I tend to update that more frequently!  Anyway, have a happy Hump Day!
